Fraser & Associates Lawyers would like to remind all licensees of the approved extended trading hours for 2025 that were recently approved by the Director of Liquor Licensing.

These changes aim to accommodate the increased demand for liquor consumption during specific times of the year and align with community expectations for access to licensed premises. Below are the key details for your reference:

Approved Extended Trading Hours

Packaged Liquor in Regional Areas

Regional liquor stores are permitted to sell packaged liquor on the following dates, from 10am to 10pm, without requiring an Extended Trading Permit (ETP):

  • 26 January 2025
  • 2 March 2025
  • 20 April 2025
  • 1 June 2025
  • 28 September 2025
  • 14, 21, and 28 December 2025

Packaged Liquor in the Metropolitan Area

Metropolitan liquor stores, along with hotels and taverns in both metropolitan and regional areas, may sell packaged liquor from 8am to 10am on the following dates:

  • 14 December 2025
  • 21 December 2025
  • 28 December 2025

Consumption on Licensed Premises

Hotels, taverns, and small bars are permitted to trade for consumption on their premises from 6am to 10am on the following days, provided liquor sales during this time are ancillary to a meal:

  • Mother’s Day – 11 May 2025
  • Father’s Day – 7 September 2025

Exclusions

Premises in regional Western Australia where liquor restrictions are already in place are excluded from these gazetted dates. Such premises must apply for an ETP, which will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Compliance and Responsibilities

Licensees and their staff are reminded to adhere to all conditions of their licence during these extended trading hours, including:

  • Responsible service of alcohol – Ensure compliance with RSA guidelines at all times.
  • Banned Drinker Area (BDA) scanning – Where applicable, ensure proper scanning procedures are followed.
